Daisie Rich Trust

Miss Daisie Rich

Upward and Rich commenced trading in Pyle Street, Newport in 1650

Following the death of Miss Daisie Rich in 1955, a Trust was set up to look after the welfare of former employees of Upward and Rich – an Isle of Wight company of grocers and provisioners, established by Daisie’s family in the early nineteenth century.

This Will Trust enjoyed excellent management by a successful Island businessman and philanthropist, Alford Collins, until his retirement at the beginning of the new millennium, and the Trust continues to thrive under its current chairman, Mrs Claire Locke, and a strong board of Trustees.

The original legacy has been well invested over the years, generating sufficient funds to satisfy the commitment of Daisie Rich to her ex-employees, and her wish that residual funds be donated to needy people of the Isle of Wight.

As at April 2022 the value of the Trust’s assets was approximately £3.9m – a significant growth on the original legacy of £28,000, and during that year it generated £144k for Upward and Rich ex-employees and Island good causes.
